It had to happen—a condensed Bible, from the people famous for condensing books. Published in 1982, the Reader’s Digest Bible is based on the Revised Standard Version. It omits the chapter and verse divisions found in all bibles (which makes it useless for reference purposes) and has no footnotes, just the straight text. It omits duplicate material (for example, the parts of 1 and 2 Chronicles that duplicate parts of 1 and 2 Kings).
