Jairus, head of a synagogue, begged Jesus to come and heal his daughter, who was at the point of death. When Jairus and Jesus arrived at the house, the child was already dead.
Jesus saw the people weeping and said, “The child is not dead, but sleeping.” They mocked Him, but Jesus took the child by the hand and said, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” She stood up and began walking. “And they were overcome with great amazement” (Mark 5:35–43).
