They are a strict branch of the Mennonites, and certainly the best known, because of their distinctive dress and shying away from modern conveniences. The Amish claim to take the Bible literally, particularly the Sermon on the Mount with its strong stand on nonviolence.
The Amish more than any other Christians have followed the New Testament standards of avoiding worldliness. As in the New Testament, they meet for worship and fellowship in each other’s homes, not in churches.
