Hasidic Jews, the most conservative Jews today, are noted for their “prayer-locks,” the unclipped locks of hair in front of each ear. The practice is based on Leviticus 19:27: “You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard.”
