Peter and the Angel

As Jesus predicted, His apostles were persecuted, imprisoned, and even killed. Peter was thrown into prison by Herod, bound with chains with a soldier on each side. Peter was sleeping, but awakened to a glowing angel, who made Peter’s chains fall off.

Peter followed him out and went to a home where some fellow Christians were praying for him. When Peter knocked, the servant girl was hysterical at seeing him set free. Peter’s miraculous deliverance had an unfortunate consequence for his guards: Herod had them executed (Acts 12).
