Ahab was one of Israel’s most wicked kings, as illustrated in his lack of respect for private property. Naboth owned a vineyard near Ahab’s palace but refused to sell it.
Ahab reacted by pouting, and his evil wife, Jezebel, engineered a plot: Naboth was falsely accused of both blasphemy and treason, then stoned to death (1 Kings 21).
Ahab went to look at his new possession, the vineyard, but was met by the prophet Elijah, who condemned the action and prophesied doom for Ahab and Jezebel.
Ahab humbled himself—temporarily—but eventually he and Jezebel both died horribly, as Elijah prophesied.
