Saintly people often end up, ironically, in prison, and this happened often in the Bible. The prophet Jeremiah rattled the establishment by preaching against its sins, and he was in and out of prison quite often.
His worst imprisonment was a dungeon with a floor of muck, and Jeremiah “sank in the mire” (Jer. 38:6). The prophet was lowered into it with ropes. One of the king’s servants persuaded the king to release Jeremiah from the dungeon, but Jeremiah was still kept in prison.
