Hittites

The Hittites are a sort of divine joke played on people who doubted the Bible is true. The Old Testament refers to them many times, and one of King David’s best soldiers was Uriah the Hittite.

But for many years archaeologists found no evidence that the Hittites existed, so skeptics claimed the Hittites were fictional, a tribe invented by the Bible’s authors (which suggested that the Bible contained a lot of fictional things).

But in 1906 a German archaeologist began digging up Hittite artifacts in the area we now call Turkey. There is now no doubt in anyone’s mind that the Hittites really existed.
