Gloria In Excelsis Deo

This Latin phrase means “glory to God in the highest.” It was part of the angels’ song to the shepherds as they announced the birth of Jesus (Luke 2:14): “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” The “Gloria” has been set to music hundreds of times, notably as the chorus of the Christmas song “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
