According to the New Testament, all true believers “have the Holy Spirit,” meaning that God is actively working in their lives. In 1 Corinthians 12, the apostle Paul lists various “gifts of the Spirit,” or “spiritual gifts.”
These include: wisdom, knowledge, faith, healings, miracles, prophecy, distinguishing between spirits, speaking in tongues, interpretation of tongues. “One and the same Spirit works all these things [gifts], distributing to each one individually as He wills” (12:11).
Paul emphasizes that all Christians are members of one body and all should not expect to have the same gifts. He also stresses, in 1 Corinthians 13, that self-giving love is more important than the more demonstrative gifts.
Pentecostal and charismatic Christians place emphasis on spiritual gifts. See 327 (Pentecostals) and 328 (charismatics).
