All four Gospels report the great miracle of Jesus feeding a crowd with only a small amount of food. After a full day of teaching and healing, Jesus told His disciples to feed the people.
They replied that they only had five loaves of bread and two fish—and a crowd of five thousand. Jesus offered thanks over the food then broke the loaves apart, and they all ate and were satisfied (Luke 9:10–17).
Skeptics like to explain away the event, saying the people probably had food with them and, under Jesus’ influence, shared their food with others, turning the event into a large church supper.
But taking the Gospels at face value, Jesus performed a rather amazing miracle—obviously not for show, but because, as His disciples had told Him, they were in a remote place and there was no other way to feed the people who had come to see the Christ.
