This poet was an illiterate herdsman who claimed he received divine inspiration to compose Christian poetry. He entered a monastery, where his poetic retellings of Genesis, Exodus, and Daniel were written down in Anglo-Saxon (also called Old English). He produced another long poem, Christ and Satan. Caedmon died around 680.
