The Feast Provided by the God of Grace

Charles Spurgeon

They are not fed with just a little food, but of the abundance of Your house – the special abundance of God’s own house! And such feasting is guaranteed by a faithful promise to all those who are sheltered under the shadow of the Most High’s wings.

Think how much grace one Christian requires.

Think how much grace one Christian requires.

The Feast Provided by the God of Grace. Daily devocional of Charles Spurgeon

They drink their fill of the abundance of Your house; and You give them to drink of the river of Your delights. (Psalm 36:8)

The queen of Sheba was amazed at the magnificence of Solomon’s table. She was overwhelmed when she saw the provision of a single day, and she marveled equally at the company of servants who feasted at the royal table.

But what is this compared to the feast provided by the God of grace? Thousands of His people are daily fed there! Hungry and thirsty, they bring large appetites with them to the banquet, but not one of them leaves unsatisfied. There is enough for each, enough for all, and enough forevermore!

Though the multitude that feeds at the Lord’s table is as countless as the sands of the sea, yet each one has his portion of food. Think how much grace one Christian requires.

He requires so much that none but the Infinite One could supply him for even one day, yet the Lord spreads His table, not for one person only, but for many saints. He does this not just for one day or for many years, but for generation after generation!

Observe the full feasting spoken of in the text. The guests at mercy’s banquet are not merely satisfied, but they also feast.

They are not fed with just a little food, but of the abundance of Your house – the special abundance of God’s own house! And such feasting is guaranteed by a faithful promise to all those who are sheltered under the shadow of the Most High’s wings.

I once thought that I would be satisfied if I would only get the broken crumbs at God’s back door of grace, like the woman who said, The dogs feed on the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table (Matthew 15:27). But no child of God is ever served with scraps and leftovers! Like Mephibosheth, they all feast from the king’s own table.

In matters of grace, we all have Benjamin’s portion – we all have ten times more than we could have expected! Although our necessities are great, we are often amazed at the marvelous plenty of grace that God gives us to enjoy by experience!

Charles Haddon Spurgeon was an English Baptist pastor. He is still known to people as the Prince of Preachers. Charles Spurgeon throughout his life evangelized about 10 million people and often preached 10 times a week in different places.

Psalm 19 tells us that, unless you repress it, you can still hear the stars singing about their maker.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

From Heavenly Greatness to Inexhaustible Love

Timothy Keller
The number of stars is still uncountable by human science, yet God knows them by name (verse 4; cf. Isaiah 40:26). Job speaks of the creation, when “the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy” (Job 38:7).
This Christmas season, let’s remember to thank Him for His most precious gift to us: Himself.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

The Gift of Himself

David Jeremiah
Long ago, there ruled a wise and good king in Persia who loved his people and often dressed in the clothes of a working man or a beggar so he could visit the poor and learn about their hardships.
Father, as we honor the birth of your Son, let us think on mercy, healing, and reconciliation. Amen.

Healing Time

J. Stephen Lang
1868: On this date a political leader who grew up poor, had no formal education and was illiterate until his wife taught him to read and write, issued Proclamation 179 “granting full pardon and amnesty for the offense of treason against the United States during the late Civil War.”
Christmas means you have an eternal home waiting for you. That should make more than the angels sing!

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

A Personal Promise

Charles Stanley
Jesus came to earth with the view of offering you salvation. He wanted you to have a restored relationship with the Father, a relationship that was so close, so intimate, that you would have your special place in the Father’s house (John 14:1–4).
The only people in Israel who did recognize Christ at His birth were humble, unremarkable people.

DAILY DEVOTIONAL

The Unexpected Savior

John MacArthur
Scripture records that when John the Baptist began his ministry, “The people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not” (Luke 3:15).
