TORAH

TORAH

(Heb.: “instruct”). It refers to instruction in the will of the Lord. In Judaism it came to mean specifically the Law of Moses, but it could also refer to the teachings of the prophets, as used in later rabbinic Judaism and the NT (cf. 1 Cor. 14:21, where it appears a quote from Isaiah, adding: “in the law (Greek “nomos”, translated from the Hebrew “torah”) it is written.”
