MOLE

MOLE

The Hebrew term. «hãpharphãrõth», «hole digger». In Palestine there is the topo-rata (“Spalax typhlus”), which is surely the one mentioned in Is. 2:20. Very widespread, it lives underground, in small groups.

The “spalax”, a rodent that feeds on vegetables, especially bulbs, resembles the mole, but is not of the same order, because the mole is insectivorous. Larger than the mole, it measures between 20 and 25 cm. It is silver gray in color. It lacks a tail, and has tiny, degenerated eyes.
