SENTINEL
Soldier who watches over and guards a position that has been entrusted to him. In the Bible he is mentioned several times (2 Sam. 13:31; 18:24, 25).
In the King James Version the word is sometimes translated as “watchtower”, and it can have this meaning or also that of a tower built in the middle of the desert to observe distant roads and see if anyone is approaching (2 Chron. 20:24).
In a symbolic sense, it is said that God places his sentinels in strategic positions to indicate the ministry that God can give to one of his servants to watch over his flock (Is. 58: 8; Ezek. 3:17).
In this last passage the Lord gives his watchman or sentinel the task of warning his people. In chapter 33 of the book of him the prophet Ezekiel lists the characteristics of the sentinel or watchman of God (Ex. 33: 1-9).
