LETTERS
Only a few letters are mentioned in the Old Testament. (See 2 Samuel 11:14; Ezra 4:8.)
They were carried to their destination by friends, special messengers, or royal couriers (Jer. 29:3; 2 Chron. 30:6; Est. 8:10).
The letters were written on a roll of papyrus or parchment, glued on the last turn and sealed (1 Kings 21:8). Sending an open letter was a sign of contempt (Neh. 6:54).
