Women on the Battlefield

There never was a better illustration given of how well women can help in the camp, if she tries to, than during our late war. Men forged the cannon. Men fashioned the musketry. Men manned the guns. Men unlimbered the batteries.

Men lifted the wounded into the ambulances. But women scraped the lint. Women administered the cordials. Women watched the dying pillow. Women wrote the last messages of love to the home circle. A woman was the mourner; the only mourner at many a burial.— IBID.
